About
I am the Emperor and I want Knödel
Knödel are a special kind of cooked desert that has been traditionally prepared centuries ago in Central European and Eastern European cuisine. Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland – these are the countries where Knödel have been valued as one of the favorite desserts through history.
Originally, the Knödel are made from potato dough (sometimes it is grits or rice dough, depends on the recipe), filled with pitted plums and rolled into bread crumbs and sugar. This is what our grandmothers used to make, and many remember it as a favorite childhood treat.
Kaiser
Franz Ferdidnand
Kaiser is the German word for emperor – and the fact that Kaiser Franz Ferdinand was a passionate lover of this dessert is well known. He adored Knödel and constantly asked his cooks to cook them for him. He often did this with the words “I am the Emperor and I want Knödel!’’
It is this story that inspired us to create the Kaiser Knödel brand, which in quality, taste and appearance can truly be classified as a dessert worthy of the Emperor!
